Creed Gallery in Ascot, Berkshire, offers original works and signed editions by CB Hoyo, the self-taught, Havana-born artist who turns deadpan hand-lettered one-liners into art. Current pieces run from £995 to £1,950 and include an original marker work on paper and a signed print from his best-known edition. Our team can advise on edition size, framing and provenance for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey and London.
About CB Hoyo: The Self-Taught Artist of the One-Liner
CB Hoyo was born in Havana in 1995, taught himself to make art and now works in Europe. He treats handwritten text as his primary material, in short, deadpan lines that borrow, in his words, "the rhythm of internal monologues, notes app confessions, and online culture". He works between the studio and Instagram, and his work has grown across a range of series, including handwritten "Corny Quotes", "Fakes" that reinterpret famous artworks, and the "Fuck It" editions. He is also wry about the art world he sells into, with titles such as Yes You Could Have Also Made This But You… and Stand In Front and Pretend You're into Art.
The Work: Text as Image
The humour is the entry point to a more pointed observation about honesty, self-improvement and how we perform ourselves online. The presentation is deliberately plain: marker on a blank sheet, or lettering in a loose rainbow of colours that bleeds into the paper. That plainness sits against the candour of the statement.
Collecting CB Hoyo at Creed Gallery
Our selection shows the range of how he works. I Do Squats To Get A Big And Beautiful Ass is an original, unique work in marker on paper, 20 × 29 cm (40 × 49 cm framed), priced at £995. Do Whatever The F*** Makes You Happy is his best-known image, in a signed archival pigment print on 300gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag with hand-deckled edges, 33 × 48 cm (41 × 56.5 cm framed), from an edition of 560, priced at £1,950. A unique work on paper and a print from a large edition are very different things, so we tell you clearly which is which. Our team will talk you through documentation and framing, and you're welcome to visit the gallery in Ascot.
Why Collect CB Hoyo
His work is funny, quick to read and very much of its moment, and his originals are the singular gesture behind the editions. As with any artist, individual pieces vary in demand and value, so our team is happy to talk you through the specifics of any work you're considering.
