Collection: John Waterhouse

Creed Gallery in Ascot, Berkshire, offers landscape art by John Waterhouse, the British oil painter known for the way light falls across grass, water and woodland. Our selection includes an original oil, The Harbingers Call (£29,995), and limited editions from £375. Our team can advise on edition, size and documentation for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey and London.

About John Waterhouse

John Waterhouse was born in Staffordshire in 1967 and won a school art prize at 16. He worked in a variety of jobs while painting, and taught art to young offenders, which he says convinced him that art lets people "dig deep inside" themselves. He became a full-time painter after years of exhibiting and commissions. Each painting starts from a memory or an emotion, which he records as a title, a quick sketch or something more developed, and weeks of preparation come before the finished oil. He describes himself as a student of light, interested in how it falls on grasses or reflects on a flooded field.

The Work: Light in the Landscape

His subjects range from mist-covered mountains to woodland paths and open fields, and the light is often the real subject. His editions bring that quality to a wider range of budgets.
