About Preston Paperboy: From Architecture to Portraiture

Nathan Preston, working as Preston Paperboy, is a British architect-turned-fine artist based in Essex whose practice merges portraiture with abstract expressionism and street art traditions. His compositions layer facial fragments, crude lines, charcoal marks and text slogans to convey personality without conventional representation.

The Motifs: The Eye and the Dollar-Sign Face

Two signature motifs recur across his work — a solitary left eye, symbolising a window to the soul, and an outlined, frowning face with dollar-sign eyes. Together they explore love, loss, envy and the mechanisms of desire, running through his three primary series: the sequential Fatale female portraits, his Wall Friend works, and his MLISA series, which engages with Western art's most painted face to demonstrate a cultural literacy that sets his approach apart from decorative street art.

Preston has shown internationally across London, Hong Kong, Atlanta and Miami. Why Collect Preston Paperboy

Preston's architectural training gives his layered, text-driven portraiture a compositional discipline that sets it apart within contemporary street-influenced painting. As with any artist, individual pieces vary in demand and value — our team is happy to talk you through the specifics of any work you're considering.
