About Thirsty Bstrd: A Paris Stencil Artist
Thirsty Bstrd is a French, self-taught artist living and working in Paris who uses spray paint, stencils, stickers and video. His work is satirical, commenting on society, politics and consumerism by taking powerful symbols and popular images and, in his own words, making them "look funny or weird". From 2011 to 2015 he ran his own creative agency in Paris as artistic director, and he has curated and organised urban art exhibitions in Paris and Los Angeles. His work appears in collections in Paris, London, Singapore and the USA.
When Banksy Meets Star Wars
His best-known series applies the stencil visual language of street art to Star Wars characters. Han Solo holds a banana instead of a blaster, Princess Leia carries a bazooka, Chewbacca waits at a fast-food counter and an Ewok strikes Banksy's "Laugh Now" pose. Our editions include Han Solo Banana in silver and navy, Princess Leia Bazooka, Smiley Stormtrooper, Chewbacca Fast Food and Laugh Now Ewok, all £136.
Future Leader and Other Works
Future Leader shows a child in a gas mask against a single bold colour, and is available in gold (£325), and purple and pink (£295 each). Monsieur Lanceur de Fleurs (Yellow) gives Banksy's Flower Thrower a French name and nationality, and No Ball Games borrows a Banksy motif. Ascot Girl and Ascot Boy (£395 each) are black-and-white stencils with a royal-enclosure theme, in a wide-brimmed hat and top hat.
