About Todd White
Todd White is a compulsive people-watcher who fills sketchbooks with body language, expressions and the props people carry, such as drinks, books and clothes. He was chosen as official artist of the 2007 Grammy Awards, and in 2009 Warner Bros invited him to take part in the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. His painting Bar Tales was the highlight of the touring Inspirations of Oz exhibition, which showed in cities including Miami, Los Angeles, Dubai, London and Vienna. In 2010 he provided six sketches for Coca-Cola Light bottles in Mexico. Dealer biographies list collectors including Sharon Stone, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sylvester Stallone and Mary J. Blige.
The Work: The Social Theatre
His figures are elongated and expressively posed, caught in a sidelong glance or holding a drink at just the right angle. The wit is affectionate, and the scenes recognise people who are always, on some level, performing.
