Ai Weiwei

Ai Weiwei (b. 1957) is a renowned Chinese contemporary artist and activist whose work spans sculpture, installation, architecture, photography and film. Known for his provocative and politically charged creations, Ai Weiwei addresses themes of human rights, freedom of expression and the tension between tradition and modernity.  

His iconic works include 'Sunflower Seeds' (2010), a vast installation of hand-painted porcelain seeds, and 'Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn' (1995), a bold statement on cultural heritage. An outspoken critic of government censorship and oppression, Ai Weiwei's activism has led to international recognition and periods of personal hardship, including imprisonment in 2011.  

Despite challenges, he continues to create and exhibit globally, advocating for freedom of expression and justice through his art; making him one of the most influential figures in contemporary art today.
