Collection: Kate Paul

Kate Paul, (b.1988 in Wroclaw, Poland), is a Wroclaw-based artist with a master’s degree in painting and drawing from the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw. To broaden her artistic scope, she also studied ceramics. Rejecting traditional academic norms, she pursued a distinct style, dedicating herself to painting full-time in 2018 after working as a graphic designer, ceramicist and musician.

Rooted in the layered cultural history of Lower Silesia, a region shaped by centuries of migration, conflict, and transformation; Paul’s art reflects its palimpsest of German, Czech, Polish and Jewish influences. Inspired by the region’s ruins, faded paintings and aged architecture, she weaves its history into her work, exploring the inescapable presence of the past.

Calligraphy plays a central role in her art. She views it as a symbolic labyrinth, with letters and numbers acting as a thread connecting past and present. Drawing inspiration from ancient documents, ruins, and relics, her inscriptions tell human stories - revealing emotions, fears and desires - while bridging time through brushstrokes imbued with meaning.
