About KEO X-Men
KEO, also known as Lord Scotch and Scotch 79, is a Brooklyn-born graffiti writer from New York's X-Men crew. His name comes from the crew, not the Marvel comic. He became known for his creative direction and illustration for album packaging, above all MF DOOM's Operation: Doomsday, and for designing DOOM's first physical mask. He has described how he and DOOM became friends, and how DOOM would sketch an idea and bring it to him. He sticks to the original tools of subway writing, spray paint and markers. Woodbury House also lists collaborations with Nike, Supreme, Stüssy and adidas, and visuals for artists including Kool Keith, Inspectah Deck and EPMD.
Operation: Doomsday
MF DOOM was the masked persona of Daniel Dumile, modelled on Marvel's Doctor Doom, and Operation: Doomsday(1999) was his first album under that name. DOOM died in 2020. For the album's 25th anniversary in 2024, KEO produced hand-pulled silkscreen prints based on the sketch version of the cover, in three editions, all signed and numbered. Our print renders the mask in dense crosshatching against spray-painted bursts in teal and orange, and is artist's proof no. 7.
