About Tabitha Millett: Minimalism in Black and White
Tabitha Millett is a British abstract minimalist painter based in Cambridge, where her studio is at the University of Cambridge. Her work is built on monochrome, contrast, texture, line and form, with simple arrangements, geometric shapes and hard edges. She draws on Bauhaus and Brutalist design, and has said she aims to take minimalism as far as it will go. She has exhibited in Soho in 2016, at King's College, Cambridge in 2022 and at the Saatchi Gallery in 2023.
How Tabitha Millett Works
Millett keeps her palette and her marks to a minimum, so every line and every change of texture has to earn its place. Her pieces rely on the tension between black and white, between a rough surface and a clean edge, and between a sweeping gesture and a fine, careful line. The result is a restrained picture with real weight, and it sits well in a modern room with plenty of wall.
Brushstroke: The Triptych
Brushstroke is a monochrome limited edition that shows what bold, gestural mark-making can do. Sweeping black arcs, fine linear details and spontaneous marks run across three panels of textured box canvas against a crisp white background. The whole triptych measures 45 × 42 inches (about 114 × 107 cm), and it is released as a limited edition of 150.
