Braddock Tiles is a striking example of RETNA’s distinctive calligraphic language, in which traditional forms of writing and lettering are transformed into a contemporary visual script.

Born Marquis Lewis in Los Angeles, RETNA began writing graffiti as a teenager before developing the highly recognisable alphabet that has become central to his practice. Drawing inspiration from Egyptian hieroglyphics, Arabic and Hebrew calligraphy, Gothic blackletter and Los Angeles graffiti, his invented script brings together diverse cultural influences in a single, cohesive visual language.

Created in 2013, Braddock Tiles presents RETNA’s intricate lettering across the sheet, creating a rhythmic composition that sits between text, symbol and abstract form. The work demonstrates the precision and graphic quality that have made RETNA one of the most recognisable artists to emerge from the contemporary street-art movement.

The print is produced as a limited edition of 250, printed as a giclée on archival Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Each example is hand-numbered in pencil and bears the Braddock Tiles stamp, adding to its collectability.
