Richard Hambleton (1952–2017) — Horse and Rider

Richard Hambleton was a Canadian-American artist and, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, one of the pioneers of New York's downtown street art scene. Best known as the creator of the "Shadowman" — a menacing black silhouette he painted across hundreds of locations in New York, Paris, London and on both sides of the Berlin Wall — Hambleton later developed the related "Horse and Rider" series, depicting the same explosive, gestural silhouette astride a bucking horse. He exhibited at the Venice Biennale in the 1980s and is remembered as the "Godfather of Street Art."

This screenprint captures Hambleton's signature Horse and Rider imagery: a dark, gestural silhouette of a rider astride a rearing horse, rendered in explosive black brushwork against a vivid red and orange ground. Signed and dated 2011.

Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey, and London.
