Spaceman Richie takes Alec Monopoly's Richie Rich character beyond the confines of Earth — the billionaire in space being, in 2024, not merely a cultural fantasy but an actual phenomenon, with the world's wealthiest individuals funding their own space programmes. Monopoly's Spaceman Richie was conceived before Bezos, Musk, and Branson made the premise literal, which gives the work a prescient quality alongside its satirical one.

The hand-painted vinyl sculpture format — the designer toy tradition elevated by Monopoly into something approaching fine art — allows the work to exist in three dimensions, to be handled and displayed in ways that paintings and prints cannot. Each sculpture is hand-painted by Monopoly himself, making it a unique object within what appears to be an edition.
