Banksy (b. c.1974)
Peckham Rock
Official British Museum Edition
In 2005, Banksy installed a fake cave painting in the British Museum — a primitive figure pushing a shopping trolley, with a fake museum label describing it as an example of "early man's futile attempt to capture and store vast quantities of animal skins and bile." The work remained on display for several days before discovery. The British Museum subsequently acquired it for their permanent collection, making Banksy the only artist to have work officially acquired through an act of institutional trespass. The Official British Museum Edition is the authorised publication — the institution's acknowledgment of the work's significance made tangible. Pest Control COA included. Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot.
