The title is the work's argument. Craig Alan's Populus method — building large images from hundreds of individually hand-painted miniature figures — finds its most direct expression in Everyone: a painting about the human mass, about the collective, about what it means to be one among many while remaining a distinct individual. At close range, each figure is particular. From across the room, they become something else entirely.

Alan has described the Populus series as an exploration of the relationship between individual and community — a subject with obvious relevance in the contemporary world, but approached here through pure visual means rather than illustration or polemic. The work does its thinking in paint.
