Damien Hirst was born in Bristol in 1965, studied at Goldsmiths College and won the Turner Prize in 1995. He is known for his spot, spin and butterfly works and his preserved animal sculptures, and Tate Modern staged a major survey of his career in 2012.

Butterfly Heart (Small) is a 2020 charity edition for The Felix Project. It combines two of the most recognisable elements of Hirst's work: the butterfly, which appears throughout his practice as a symbol of transformation, beauty and the brevity of life, and the heart, the universal symbol of love. The composition builds the heart from butterfly wing patterns, so something fragile and fleeting forms something universal. Its compact size suits a wide range of domestic and corporate spaces.
