Ghost — No Surrender

Ghost’s work frequently returns to figures of British national identity, recontextualised through the same graffiti-collage technique that defines his film-referencing pieces. No Surrender takes Winston Churchill as its subject, built from archival wartime photography and newspaper clippings layered into the composition itself — headlines reading “Victory,” “We Never Surrender,” and “The Greatest Englishman” worked directly into the piece alongside a Union Jack motif rendered in cracked, weathered monochrome.

The image recasts the familiar bulldog-spirit Churchill in a harder register, gun in hand against the flag, gold bullet casings set into the lower corners of the composition. As with Ghost’s other work, the frame itself carries part of the piece’s content rather than simply containing it.
