The yellow Montreux Jazz Festival poster is the most luminous of the 1983 variants — yellow being the colour of energy, of sunshine, of the particular brightness that Haring's visual language has always carried. The yellow ground gives the composition a radiance that the other palette variants cannot achieve, the Haring figures dancing against a ground of pure light.

The Montreux Jazz Festival posters have been collected and exhibited as artworks since the 1970s, when the festival commissioned its first artist poster, creating a tradition that has included artists of the calibre of Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
