Keith Haring (1958–1990) — Three Eyes
Keith Haring emerged from the New York subway platforms and downtown clubs of the early 1980s to become one of the defining figures of Pop Art's second generation, his radiant babies, barking dogs and dancing figures turning a rapid, chalk-line vocabulary into a form of public address. A close contemporary of Jean-Michel Basquiat and later Andy Warhol, Haring opened his Pop Shop in SoHo in 1986 to sell his imagery directly to the public, and founded the Keith Haring Foundation in 1989 to support AIDS organisations and children's programmes before his death from AIDS-related complications in February 1990, aged 31.
Three Eyes belongs to the Icons series, a set of five embossed screenprints published in 1990 by Tony Shafrazi Editions and printed by Studio Heinrici in New York on Arches cover paper, in an edition of 250. The grinning, three-eyed face was one of Haring's most repeated motifs, rendered here in his instantly recognisable bold black line against a saturated pink ground, its extra eye lending the familiar smiling icon an alert, watchful edge.
Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey, and London.
