Michael Kagan (b. 1980) — Moonwalker

Michael Kagan was born in Virginia Beach in 1980 and is now based in Brooklyn, where his oil paintings — built from large, deliberate brushstrokes — have made him one of the more distinctive chroniclers of human exploration working today, held in collections including the Smithsonian.

Moonwalker, released in 2024 with the New York printmaking studio Brand X Editions, draws on NASA’s Apollo missions: a suited astronaut on the lunar surface, gazing toward a mission mate reflected in the curve of his helmet visor.
