Mr. Brainwash's engagement with Banksy's Flower Thrower — one of the most iconic images in the entire street art canon — is one of the most meta-referential works in either artist's output. Banksy's original image already comments on the relationship between violence and beauty, between the gesture of throwing and the nature of what is thrown; Mr. Brainwash takes that comment and subjects it to further transformation, making it part of his own visual argument about the relationship between artists and the images they inherit.

The two artists' histories are intertwined — Banksy's documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop brought Mr. Brainwash to global attention while simultaneously questioning his legitimacy as an artist. In painting the Flower Thrower, Mr. Brainwash completes a circle: the subject returning to comment on his own creation. Hand-signed.
