Ocean Serenade takes Natasha Barnes' abstract expressionist practice to the coast — a landscape of particular visual drama in which the horizontal vastness of the sea meets the vertical scale of the sky, and light performs differently to any inland environment. Barnes, whose instinctive approach to painting absorbs landscape in the mind before transferring it to canvas, brings to the ocean subject the same committed physicality that characterises all her large-scale work.
