An original work by RETNA, the Los Angeles-born artist renowned for his distinctive visual language, where graffiti, ancient scripts and contemporary calligraphy converge in a singular, instantly recognisable style.
Born Marquis Lewis in 1979, RETNA began writing graffiti as a teenager before developing his signature script — an intricate fusion of Egyptian hieroglyphics, Arabic and Hebrew calligraphy, Gothic blackletter and the visual energy of Los Angeles street culture. Drawing on his multicultural heritage, his work explores the power of language and its ability to transcend cultural boundaries.
Executed entirely in black, this striking piece offers a bold, understated interpretation of RETNA’s celebrated script. Its layered, rhythmic forms create a compelling interplay of movement, texture and negative space, allowing the complexity of the artist’s lettering to take centre stage.
From large-scale murals in Wynwood, the Bowery and Mexico City to collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Nike and Chanel, RETNA has established a distinctive presence at the intersection of contemporary art, street culture and luxury design.
Presented in a substantial frame, this original artwork makes an impactful statement within a contemporary interior, offering collectors an opportunity to acquire a unique work by one of the most recognisable artists to emerge from Los Angeles’ graffiti movement.
Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, serving collectors across Berkshire, Surrey and London.
