Salvador Dalí (1904–1989)
Pastorale, 1980
Etching and aquatint in colours on Japon paper | Hand-signed Artist's Proof

Pastorale belongs to Dalí's Historia de Don Quichotte de la Mancha suite — the artist's engagement with Cervantes' great novel of dreams, delusion, and the gap between the world as we imagine it and the world as it is. For Dalí, Don Quixote was a natural subject: a figure whose entire existence is organised around the refusal to accept ordinary reality, who chooses the dream over the fact, who turns windmills into giants and inns into castles through the sheer force of his imagination.

Pastorale renders a Surrealist landscape in Dalí's characteristic intaglio technique — delicate linework combined with the rich atmospheric tones of aquatint, the whole executed on Japon paper which gives the impression an added luminosity and warmth. As a hand-signed Artist's Proof, this impression is from outside the main edition — produced for the artist's personal use and considered among the most desirable impressions in any print series.

For collectors in Berkshire, Surrey, and London seeking a signed Dalí work with full provenance and documentation, Pastorale represents an exceptional opportunity.

Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot. Private viewings by appointment.
