Schoony (Jon Schofield, b. 1970)
Boy Soldier | Gold Panels
Large wall relief sculpture
The Gold Panels version of Schoony's Boy Soldier is among his most formally spectacular — a large wall relief sculpture that presents the child's face in a framework of gold, the precious metal creating a context of value and significance that amplifies the work's central tension between innocence and conflict. Gold has always been the material of the sacred and the sovereign: here it frames the face of a child caught in something neither sacred nor sovereign but simply terrible.
Schoony — whose Hollywood credits include Saving Private Ryan and Troy — brings to this work the technical mastery that comes from years of working with the most demanding materials in sculpture and special effects. The large format gives the work the presence of a significant installation piece. Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey, and London.
