Acrylic and resin on canvas | Original
Simon Kenny works with light in the way that the best landscape painters have always worked with light — not as a quality of the subject but as the subject itself. His signature technique — acrylic and resin applied in a manner he has described as "lyrical abstraction" — produces surfaces that catch and hold illumination with unusual intensity. Kenny has been called a "radical Turner" for the quality of his light, and the comparison is not merely flattering: both artists are fundamentally concerned with what paint can do when it is asked to capture something as transient and particular as the way light moves.
Division uses Kenny's "colour burst" technique to explore the formal properties of separation and boundary — the line between one state and another, rendered in paint that refuses to stay within lines. The resin surface gives the work a depth and luminosity that shifts with viewing angle and ambient light, making it a painting that is different at different hours of the day.
Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey, and London. Private viewings by appointment.
