Mind is Simon Kenny's most psychologically direct title — a painting whose subject is the organ of perception itself, the instrument through which all visual experience is processed and all aesthetic judgement made. His lyrical abstraction — built through brush and palette knife work, subtle under-painting, and graduating alterations in colour — creates surfaces of atmospheric depth that seem to map something of the mind's own complexity: the way consciousness moves between clarity and obscurity, focus and diffusion, the specific quality of thought as it forms and dissolves.
