Time Amongst Heavens locates Simon Kenny's practice in the tradition of the sublime — the experience of being overwhelmed by something larger than the self, whether natural or cosmic. His acrylic and resin technique builds surfaces of unusual luminosity, each layer of resin adding depth and a quality of interior light that photography cannot adequately capture.

Kenny describes his practice as "emotional architecture" — a phrase that makes sense once you are standing in front of one of his larger works. The scale and the surface work together to create an experience that is as much spatial as visual: the painting as environment rather than image. Time Amongst Heavens operates at this level — a work that asks more from the viewer than a glance, and rewards the time spent with it.
