A Jeroboam Long Lunch is among the most formally specific of William Hylton's Long Lunch series — the Jeroboam, a three-litre bottle equivalent to four standard bottles of wine, naming both the quantity of the occasion and the scale of ambition. The Long Lunch has always been a specifically British institution: the extended midday meal at which business is conducted, relationships are maintained, and the conventional boundaries between the professional and the personal are suspended in the shared pleasure of food, wine, and good company. Hylton's Pop Art vocabulary — the bold colour, the vibrant imagery, the playful text — is ideally suited to this subject.
