مجموعة: Katharine Dove | Cotswold & Figurative Painting

Katharine Dove works from a studio in the Cotswolds and paints the world as it shifts and changes with the seasons — the built environment in its relationship with the natural world, the specific beauty of things that are both permanent and transient. Regency buildings at cherry blossom time, Cornish fishing villages, a gilded carousel against a starlit sky: subjects that carry the particular quality of being exactly themselves at exactly the right moment.

She always travels with a camera and a notebook, gathering images and sketches that form the basis of her studio work. The paintings that result are recognisable without being literal — she leaves space for the imagination, using a distinctive combination of media developed over years of practice to create exquisite colour, delicate detail, and on occasion a quality of drama that lifts the familiar into something more resonant.

Her dog portraits — a strand of her practice that has developed its own devoted following — bring the same warmth and observational intelligence to animal subjects. Smell Terrier and Trotting capture the specific character of their subjects with the kind of accuracy that comes from sustained, affectionate attention rather than mere technical skill.

Highly commended in a 2011 Broadway art competition, she was subsequently shortlisted for The Artist and Illustrator Magazine Artist of the Year 2014 and invited to exhibit at the Mall Galleries in 2015. She has held several successful solo exhibitions across the UK and is firmly established as one of the most distinctive painters working in the Cotswold tradition. Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey, and London.
