Blek le Rat (b. 1951) — The Warrior (Blue)

Blek le Rat is widely credited as the father of stencil graffiti and the single most acknowledged influence on Banksy, who has openly stated his debt to the older artist’s work. The Warrior restages his signature rat — long the artist’s stand-in for the free, undetected outsider — as a soldier holding a rifle with a single flower tucked into the barrel in place of a bullet.

In this mint-blue colourway, the flower-power gesture of 1960s anti-war protest is given a cooler, more restrained palette than the artist’s red and yellow versions of the same image. Screenprinted in four colours on 300gsm Arches paper, the edition was produced in 2018 and remains one of the more sought-after Blek le Rat editions on the secondary market.
