Robert Indiana (1928–2018)
Love and Hope
Unnumbered edition

Robert Indiana, born Robert Clark, was one of the defining figures of American Pop art. His hard-edge LOVE composition, developed through the mid-1960s, became a genuine cultural phenomenon, and Indiana later returned to its formal vocabulary — the stacked letters, the tilted vowel — for HOPE, created in 2008 in support of Barack Obama's presidential campaign and released with proceeds supporting the campaign.

Love and Hope brings Indiana's two most iconic words together in a single work, pairing the composition that made his name with the one that carried his visual language into a new generation and a new political moment. Together they trace a single artist's vocabulary used, thirty years apart, to speak to two entirely different American moments.

Available through Creed Gallery, Ascot, for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey, and London.
