About Angel Ortiz: LA II and the Lower East Side
Born in 1967, Angel Ortiz — known as LA II — began creating graffiti on New York's Lower East Side at just ten years old, developing the wild-style vocabulary in childhood that would become his sophisticated, densely patterned visual language.
The Keith Haring Collaboration
Ortiz met Keith Haring in 1980, forming one of the most celebrated artistic collaborations of the decade. Over six years, the partnership combined Haring's bold cartoon figures with Ortiz's dense, intricate pattern-filling and calligraphic mark-making. His piece Mona Haring merges Western art history with that same established visual language, while his independent work carries the rhythmic energy of his wild-style roots.
Collecting Angel Ortiz at Creed Gallery
As one of the surviving figures of 1980s New York street art, Ortiz's work carries a historical significance unavailable from younger artists working in the same tradition. Creed Gallery currently holds Roger 2 (£1,695) and Mona Haring (£5,995), available for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey and London.
Why Collect Angel Ortiz
Ortiz offers a direct line to one of street art's most significant partnerships, backed by a personal visual language developed decades before Haring entered the picture. As with any artist, individual pieces vary in demand and value — our team is happy to talk you through the specifics of any work you're considering.
