After studying art he joined the British Army, serving for sixteen years transporting tanks and heavy equipment across Europe — including a tour in Afghanistan in 2012 — before his military career reignited rather than displaced his artistic ambitions. The combination of graphic design training, photo restoration expertise, and sixteen years of sustained experience in some of the most demanding environments on earth gives his practice a grounding in the real world that purely art-school-formed practitioners rarely possess.

His visual language draws on the bold graphic imagery of 1980s popular culture — specifically the iconic t-shirt designs of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, which he has cited as a formative influence — combined with the collage tradition that runs from Dada through Pop Art to the contemporary street art scene in which his paste-ups appear alongside his gallery work.
