About Sherree Valentine Daines: Painter of the British Summer

Sherree Valentine Daines was born in Surrey in 1959 and trained at Epsom School of Art. Her biography describes more than 35 years at the forefront of British art, and a career that has included appearances on British television and, in 2019, an appointment as Artist in Residence to Cunard's Three Queens: Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2. Her biography also says she has been voted the UK's leading Modern Impressionist, and cites the Daily Express calling her "artist to the stars" and Art of England praising her as the country's finest figurative artist.

The Subjects: Ascot, Henley and the Social Calendar

Her paintings are about the British summer as people actually enjoy it: race days and Ladies Day at Royal Ascot, the Henley regatta, champagne on the lawn, the golf at the Ryder Cup, a stroll by the sea. She works in a light-filled impressionist manner, with loose, warm colour and figures caught in the middle of the moment. For collectors around Ascot, Berkshire and Surrey, it is painting about a world they know well.

Editions, Artist's Proofs and Hand-Embellished Canvases

Her prints come in a few forms. Signed limited editions are numbered runs signed by the artist. An Artist's Proof is one of a small number of impressions printed in addition to the numbered edition and traditionally held back for the artist. Hand-embellished canvases are printed and then worked over in paint by the artist, so each is finished individually. We say clearly which form each work takes, along with its size and edition details.
