Collection: Alec Monopoly | Street Art & Pop Culture

Creed Gallery in Ascot, Berkshire, offers silkscreens and sculptures by Alec Monopoly, the New York-born, Los Angeles-based street artist who paints the top-hatted Rich Uncle Pennybags as a satirical icon of wealth. Our nine works run from £1,995 to £5,500 and include the 29-colour Monaco Grand Prix, Wall Street Richie Silver Bull, hand-painted sculptures and a fine bone china plate set. Our team can advise on edition, framing and provenance for collectors across Berkshire, Surrey and London.

About Alec Monopoly: The Artist Behind the Mask

Alec Monopoly was born Alec Andon in New York in 1986, did graffiti as a teenager and moved to Los Angeles in 2006. He adopted the Monopoly board game's mascot, Rich Uncle Pennybags, at the time of the 2008 financial crisis, and has said that Bernie Madoff "was actually my first symbol". He often appears in public with his face covered. His work uses spray paint, stencils and collage, including newspaper clippings, and he has collaborated with TAG Heuer and Philipp Plein. In 2013 Paramount Pictures commissioned him to design the logo for its INSURGE label.

Satire and Celebration

The Pennybags figure stands in for capitalist excess, and Monopoly places him among the symbols of real financial power such as bulls, banknotes and luxury brands. Critics point out that his work swings between biting satire and an ambiguous celebration of the wealth it mocks, and that tension is part of its appeal.
