Collection: Lincoln Townley

Creed Gallery in Ascot, Berkshire, offers Lincoln Townley original paintings, studies and signed editions to collectors across Berkshire, Surrey and London. Townley (b. 1972) is the self-taught British painter best known for his Banker portraits, thickly painted, Bacon-influenced figures of financiers, and for the related Skull Banker works. Current pieces run from £1,995 to £150,000, and our team can advise on provenance, condition and framing.

About Lincoln Townley: A Self-Taught British Painter

Lincoln Townley was born in London in 1972 and is largely self-taught. He worked in nightclub marketing and celebrity PR before turning to painting, and Artnet notes that early work was collected by Charlie Sheen, Al Pacino and Russell Brand. He has said his work is about the chaos bubbling beneath the surface of life that drives our desire to succeed. Artnet lists exhibitions at venues including the Saatchi Gallery and the Royal Academy in London and the Brisbane Powerhouse. Since 2019 he has also shown his Banker paintings in collateral exhibitions at Palazzo Bembo in Venice during the Biennale, including a 2024 solo show of 24 oil paintings marking ten years of the Bankers Collection.

The Banker and Skull Banker Paintings

The Banker paintings show head-and-shoulders businessmen in suits, their faces attacked with heavy impasto and lifting out of dark backgrounds. His biography cites Sotheby's London comparing the figures to Francis Bacon's distortions of the human body. Townley is unapologetic about the subject: "I have always looked at greed as a very positive energy," he has said. The Skull Banker works, painted in mixed media, push the same idea further, with a skull where the face should be.

Collecting Lincoln Townley at Creed Gallery

Our Townleys run across several scales and formats. At the top end are large originals: Bacon's Colony Room (£150,000), an oil portrait whose title nods to the Soho drinking club Francis Bacon made famous, and Skull Galaxy (£30,000), a unique mixed-media work with lacquer and resin. Mid-range originals include several Skull Banker paintings, from £3,500 to £25,000, and three White Rose paintings at £2,995, each with a different coloured mount. There are also five 2025 studies for the Banker collection at £2,000 each, and a signed limited edition from his Icons series featuring Robbie Williams at £1,995. Prices run from £1,995 to £150,000, and our team will talk you through provenance, documentation and framing on any work. Private viewings are available by appointment at the gallery in Ascot.
