About Maxim (MM)
Keith Andrew Palmer, known as Maxim, was born in Peterborough on 21 March 1967 and has been a member of The Prodigy since 1990. He began making art in the early 2000s, at first to hang in his own home, and exhibits under the name MM to keep it separate from his music. He is self-taught, and his first exhibition, LepidopTerror, was at I.N.C. Space in Covent Garden in September 2011. Since 2012 he has donated work to charities including breast cancer research, BT ArtBox for ChildLine, Shelter, NHS Charities Together, Young Minds and Chain of Hope. He says: "Art is another expression for me."
The Work: Butterflies, Surrealism and Found Objects
He works in acrylic, spray paint, resin, ceramics and bronze, and uses objects such as pills, blades and bullets. He is influenced by surrealism, and dealer biographies name Dalí and Bosch. His LepidopTerror series uses the butterfly, a traditional symbol of life and rebirth, but arms it: from a distance the butterflies are beautiful, and up close they carry weapons. The series treats them as underdogs that are fragile alone and powerful together.
